"Susan Bergquist is extremely knowledgeable in the areas of anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, folklore, and mythology of the Native Americans. Raised in southern Arizona under the influence of a Papago nanny who told her stories as a child, her art eventually, and inevitably moved toward the portrayal of these important stories. Susan and her husband Richard have lived for many years in San Simon, Arizona in the shadow of the historic Chiracahua mountain and are famous for their depictions of Saints in the Hispanic forms" (from the artist statement).
