Genève: René Kister, 1957. First Edition. This is Exemplaire LXIV of CXXX signed by Pierre Jean Jouve and A.M. Cassandre. A scenographic masterpiece: Cassandre pseudonym of French artist Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron, 1901-68) created the striking stage and costume designs for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni, which debuted at the prestigious Aix-en-Provence Festival in 1949 and were used for 25 years. Text in French, German, and English. Square quarto: [2], 1-46, [12], 99-110, [8], I-VIII [color plates], [4], IX-XVI [color plates], [4] pp. Printed on "Papier Pur Fil" with a watermark designed for this edition. As issued, with the unbound gatherings housed within a wrappered folder with a dust jacket and glassine wrapper. In additional to the 16 striking color plates, there are 3 black-and-white "Plans du Theatre" or stage plans, also by Cassandre. The text is numbered through page 46, followed by the unnumbered stage plans. The pagination then begins at 99 and goes through 110, followed by the color plates. This copy is complete with the same collation of text pages and pages as the bound trade edition of this work. The spine is a bit toned along the spine, while the publisher's slipcase is edgeworn with some scuffing and faint staining. Very good. Item #80584
