Crown octavo: 367, [1, blank] pp. with the frontispiece and 5 full-page plates, all color halftones after paintings by William Rainey. In the publisher's blue flat-weave cloth binding, with orange and black-stamped full-cover pictorial design of a boy with knife facing down a moose and a gilt-stamped compartment with titling on the front panel, and orange and black-stamped pictorial design of a boy shading his eyes and gilt-stamped compartment with titling on the spine. All edges stained dark green, with warm gray coated endpapers. Faint smudging to the fore-edge of a few leaves, with a period gift inscription dated "Christmas 1912" on the half-title. Period bookseller's ticket (A.W. Gamage, London) to the rear pastedown. The binding is uncommonly fresh and bright. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K.
