Royal octavo: viii, [8], 448 pp. with a hand-colored decorated extra title page, printed in brown, with tissue guard, and 10 illustrations with tissue guards, all steel engravings by Cousin, Dutillois, N. Leconte, Mauduit, Marckl, Pollet, and Revel, after Tony Johannot. Also features decorative borders throughout, all wood engravings after Cavelier. In the publisher's black straight-grain morocco binding, with gilt-stamped ruled borders with ornamental corners, and floral decorative surround with shell corners on the front and rear panels, and gilt-stamped ruled borders, repeated floral ornaments, and titling on the spine. All edges gilt, with ornamental dentelles, pale yellow coated endpapers with a blind-stamped ribbed moiré pattern, and a green silk ribbon. Just a hint of foxing to the contents, with some rubbing along the bottom edge of the boards. Quite striking. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K. Morris and Edward S.
