First-hand account of the 1960–61 Silver Hut expedition, led by Sir Edmund Hillary and physiologist Dr. Griff Pugh, a seminal 9-month scientific and mountaineering project in the Himalayas focused on studying human physiological adaptation to extreme high altitude. Based in a prefabricated "Silver Hut” at 19,000 feet in the Mingbo Valley, the team conducted groundbreaking studies on blood chemistry, breathing, and physical performance under severe hypoxia, while also attempting to climb Ama Dablam and Makalu. The expedition also attempted to find evidence either proving or disproving the existence of the Yeti. Very good / Very good. Item #80242
