THE C. M. E. GENERAL CONFERENCE SPECIAL SONG BOOK OF THE 21st General Conference and the 20th Quadrennial Session: MAY 1 - 15, 1946 : ST. LOUIS, MO.

Dallas, Texas: C. M. E. Church or Colored Methodist Episcopal Church, 1946. Wraps. The official song book for the 21st General Conference of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church. 452 delegates and more than 5,000 visitors took part in the two-week session, which was described as "epochal in a very remarkable degree" (The Indianapolis Recorder).

Includes an order of service; a list of leading pianists, music ministers, and organists using this book; and the sheet music for 18 hymns and spirituals, including "There is a Fountain Filled With Blood" and Amazing Grace". Ten of the songs are written by the editor, who served as President of the National Gospel Singers Guild of the C.M.E. Church. Little is known of Baker, who was born in Pittsburg, Texas, in 1895 and resided in Dallas where postwar directories identify him as the proprietor of Baker's Song Shop.

Octavo: 24 pp. Bound with staples in the pink paper wrappers printed in blue. Minor toning to the contents. The wrappers are a bit creased along the spine, with some offsetting to the front panel; else about very good. Scarce, OCLC locates no holdings. Item #80135
