SMALL COLLECTION OF CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESSED TO LOS ANGELES BOOKSELLERS

Five typed letters signed (TLS) and two handwritten postcards from the renowned American husband-and-wife writing team best known for their ambitious eleven-volume Story of Civilization (1935-75). Dated between 1966 and 1980, the correspondence is addressed to Robert and Blanche Campbell, who for half a century ran Campbell's Bookstore, one of the West's largest, across from the UCLA campus. The letters are typed on Will Durant's letterhead (6 1/4" x 9") featuring the couple's Los Angeles address; two are accompanied by their original mailing envelope. Dated November 9, 1966, the earliest mentions The Age of Voltaire, published the year prior. The two postcards (5 1/2" x 3 1/2") were written in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1966 and in Cannes in 1968, respectively. The latter mentions work on their Dual Autobiography, which was published nearly a decade letter, in 1977. In addition, there is a small slip of paper (3" x 5") signed by Will and Ariel Durant. Light creasing for mailing to the letters, with a small clip to the top right corner of the first letter. All the materials are clean and quite legible. Item #80128
