Paris: Charavay frères, 1881 and 1883. First Edition. Hardcover. Pairing of two of the five volumes in this series of New Year's gift books for ladies. The 1882 annual is probably the subscription issue; the 1884 annual is Number 208 of 300 copies. 12mo, two volumes (unpaginated). 1882 includes the portrait frontispiece, a fine etching with tissue guard, as well as 4 full-page plates and 3 vignettes, all photo-engravings after Adolphe Badin, Léon Glaize, and Juliette Lamber, and 3 facsimile music scores, all photo-engravings after Gounod, Reyer, and C. Saint-Saens. In the publisher's gold silk binding, with gilt-stamped ruled borders, floral and arabesque surround, ruled head and tail bands, floral ornaments, and titling, and a yellow, red, and green silk ribbon. 1884 includes the portrait frontispiece, a fine etching with tissue guard, and numerous page borders and ornaments, all wood engravings printed in brown and gold. In the publisher's ivory silk binding, with blue-stamped floral and arabesque surround with cherubs, with hand heightening in gold, and blue-stamped titling, as well as floral endpapers and a yellow, red, and green silk ribbon. The spines are a touch toned, with some faint smudging to the silk; else quite exquisite. Housed together in a custom clamshell box.
