KNAPP BROTHERS SHOES: Winter & Fall 1932-33
Boston: Knapp Brothers, 1932. Wraps. Oblong quarto: 64 pp. Profusely illustrated, largely in black and white, with some renderings in brown and orange borders and text. Original blue paper wrappers printed in navy and gold. Dampstaining to the spine and along the edges, resulting in some color bleed from the wrappers to the first and last leaves. The wrappers are toned along the extremities. Not located in OCLC, although digital versions of some earlier catalogues are available.
Priced trade catalogue showcasing over 120 different styles of Knapp shoes, primarily men's, with some women's, girls, and boys options as well. Many of the men's shoes are given names based on occupations or locations, often drawn from the types of materials used - including, bizzarely, "The Dictator", made of Australian kangaroo leather - while the women's and girls shoes are all given women's names. An illustration of the hand-sewing department is included, along with a note acknowledging the times: "It is our policy to maintain our high standards of Quality under any and all conditions. We do not propose to lower our quality in order to meet the low priced competition of the so-called 'depression shoes' now being retailed in many stores. Good. Item #80065
