REVIVAL MEETING BROADSIDE: Liberty Baptist Church, Rockford, Illinois
Original broadside advertising a week-long revival (October 18-23, 1959) at the Liberty Baptist Church, led by the Evangelist Reverend Clayborn Salter from nearby Freeport, Illinois. Features a half-tone portrait of the preacher, as well as an excerpt from Amos 4:12. Printed in black on one side of a 11" x 14" sheet of white cardstock, which is lightly toned with a little bit of smudging; otherwise very good.
Shortly after his death, the Rockford Register Star eulogized Salter (1911-2005) as "one of the final survivors of an era when black ministers were known as much for their social and political activism as for their preaching. Not only did Salter pastor New Zion Missionary Baptist Church for nearly four decades, he was the spiritual father to more than two dozen preachers, a community activist on more than a dozen boards, and an investor and owner of several businesses and properties." In 1995, the city of Rockford recognized Salter's work in the community by naming a street after him. Item #80032
