Lieb (1888-1980), who was added to the writers' wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973, devotes considerable attention to the Gas House Gang and its antics, and describes the Cardinal pennants in 1926 and 1928 (vs. the Yankees), 1930 and 1931 (vs. the Athletics), 1934 (vs. the Tigers), and 1942 and 1943 (vs. the Yankees).
