Honolulu: Hawaiian Gazette, 1900. First Edition. Wraps. Octavo: xviii [ads], 210, xix-xxx [ads] pp. Original printed paper wrappers. Beginning in 1875, Thrum (1842-1932) laboriously published his almanac for 57 years without interruption. His annuals provided long lists of statistics about Hawaii, as well as a record of schooners calling on Honolulu, tragedies of various whalers, accounts of the history the sugar and pineapple industries, articles dealing with folklore and ferns, etc.
Born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, Thrum arrived in Hawaii at the age of 11 and following a brief time at sea and in California, established himself as a leading merchant in Honolulu. Very good. Item #79942
