UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. YEAR-BOOK 1887-8.

Los Angeles: Daily Herald Book and Job Printing House, 1888. First Edition. Wraps. Founded in 1880, the University of Southern California was still a fledgling institution at the time this yearbook was published, with a total of 447 students divided among its six colleges: Liberal Arts, Seminary, Medicine, Agriculture, Theology, and Music. Each college and their courses are described in detail, along with a List of Students and Calendar. Notably, 1887 saw the construction of Old College, which served as the College of Liberal Arts until 1948. A year later, in 1888, USC fielded its first football team, which compiled a record of 2-0 during their inaugural season (co-head football coach Henry H. Goddard is listed in the Board of Instruction). Fight on! Octavo: 145, [1, blank], [4, index], [9, index], [1, blank] pp. with a frontispiece and 3 full-page illustrations. Original printed blue paper wrappers. Minor toning along the spine, with a small nick to the fore-edge of the front panel and some mild smudging to the rear panel; otherwise very good. Scarce. Very good. Item #79415
