Built by Irish and Chinese track gangs during the gold and silver bonanza of the 1880s, the Nevada railways spurred the growth of a great many mining and logging camps and consequently of the state in general. Provides a wealth of regional history in addition to the railroadiana, including detailed accounts of the area's principal mines and mills. Quarto, two volumes: xv, [1], 443, [10], [1, blank] pp. + xiii, 454-933, [1, blank] pp. with a plethora of illustrations, including a color frontispiece and the folding map housed in the rear pocket of the first volume.
