Born in Oxfordshire, Adams (1793-1873) published more than ten books for children and was the mother of novelist Charles Warren Adams. Small octavo: 415, [1], [16, ads] pp. with the frontispiece with tissue guard and 6 full-page plates, all wood engravings by Whitney Jocelyn and Mann, after John Gilbert. In the publisher's black morocco-grain cloth binding, with blind-stamped borders and central lobed oval panel with scalloped surround on the front and rear panels, and gilt-stamped floral and knotwork surrounds for a vignette of a boy on horseback, and titling on the spine.
