Octavo, two volumes: 478 pp. + 498 pp. with frontispieces and 32 full-page plates, all photogravures with orange-printed captioned tissue guards, after photographs, engravings, and paintings. The title pages are printed in orange and black. In the publisher's blue diagonal fine-ribbed cloth bindings designed by Margaret Armstrong, with gilt-stamped dot and line borders and surround, repetitive key devices, and scrolled banner with crown device and tiling on the front panels, and gilt-stamped dot and line border, compartments with crown and scrollwork, scrolled banner, and titling on the spines. Top edge gilt, with blue silk ribbon markers. Just a hint of rubbing to the corners and tips; else fine. In the scarce blue buckram dust jackets with gilt-stamped decoration repeating the binding. Housed in the publisher's blue buckram-covered slipcase with gilt-stamped circular crown, dotted line frame with key device, and titling on the top panel.
