Octavo: 605, [1, blank] pp. with a portrait frontispiece and 51 full-page plates, all wood engravings by J.E. Sharpe, Williams, et al, after Emil Bayard, A. Demarle, J.B. Zweeker, et al, as well as a full-page map and the color folding map at the rear. In the publisher's full black morocco binding, with blind-stamped ruled borders and lobed oval panel, framed by a palm tree and tropical foliate decorations on the front and rear panels, and blind-stamped ruled bands and floral ornamental compartments, and gilt-stamped titling on the spine. All edges with combed marbling in blue, with marbled endpapers. Light creasing to the folding map. The rear hinge is just starting and still quite sound. The boards are a little rubbed along the bottom edge; otherwise very good. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K. Morris and Edward S. Levin. Very good. Item #79285
