THE CAUSES OF THE DECAY OF CHRISTIAN PIETY, or an Impartial Survey of the Ruines of Christian Religion, Undermin'd by Unchristian Practice.

London: Printed by R. Norton for Robert Pawlett, 1674. Hardcover. This anonymous work has been widely attributed to Richard Allestree (c.1621-81), the English Royalist clergyman whose reputation rests on a series of moral and devotional titles initiated by The Whole Duty of Man (1657). Octavo: [xx], 449, [1, blank], [2, ads] pp. with the imprimatur leaf opposite the title page, the title page engraving of Old St. Paul's Cathedral in flames, and engraved plates of King David and Ezekiel, respectively. The period calf binding has been expertly rebacked with a brown morocco spine. Small ink notation to the front flyleaf. Some general shelfwear to the boards, with a bit of shallow loss at the corners. Good. Item #79261
