The 17th of 21 novels in the popular Voyages Excentriques series, a competitor to Jules Verne's Les Voyages Extraordinaires. Quarto: [iv], 468 pp. with 10 full-page plates, all halftones (8 printed in blue or brown) after illustrations by Louis Bombled, as well as 80 textual illustrations. The title page is printed in red and black. In the publisher's red diagonal fine-ribbed cloth binding, designed by J. Fau., with beveled boards; gilt-stamped ruled scalloped borders and titling panel, blue and gilt-stamped folded banner with titling, black and gilt-stamped decorative titling, and a white, yellow, vermilion, brown, light blue, blue, and black-stamped design of an airplane with a man in suspended basket above an angry mob on the front panel; and black anf gilt-stamped ruled bands, black and gilt-stamped titling, and a white, vermilion, and black-stamped vignette of a widow on the spine. All edges gilt, with light blue endpapers. Typical light toning to the contents, with a tiny bit of wear to the tips. An exceptional example.
