Octavo: xv, [1], 504 pp. In the publisher's deluxe red morocco binding, wiht dark red-stamped ruled borders, ornamental surrounds, floral ornamental spandrels, and central diamond-shaped ornamental surround on the front and rear boards, and five raised bands, dark-red stamped rules and compartment ornaments, and gilt-stamped titling on the spine. All edges gilt, with gauffering in a diaper pattern, ornamental dentelles, pale cream endpapers, and a brown silk ribbon marker. Period ink presentation inscription "on his leaving Eton, Easter - 1859" to a prefatory blank leaf. The gilt on the top edge is dulled a bit, with some mild rubbing to the extremities; otherwise very good. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K. Morris and Edward S.
