Milano: Santo Bravetta, circa 1840. First Edition. Hardcover. 12mo: 172, [20] pp. with 8 full-page plates, all etchings with tissue guards. Half-title page and title page with hand-colored lettering and decorative devices; chapter heads, index pages, and almanac pages with typographic ornaments; all pages with ruled borders. In the publisher's white coated paper-covered card binding, with gilt-stamped ruled borders and ornamental frame, with red, green, and blue hand-coloring; paper onlays, a moonlit lake on the front panel and a hill town on the rear, both etchings with hand coloring; and gilt-stamped ornamental and floral cartouches along the spine, with red, green, or blue hand-colored dot on each. All edges gilt, with buff endpapers. Scattered light foxing, with a bookplate to the front pastedown. The spine is a bit toned; otherwise very good. Housed in the publisher's white coated paper-covered card slipcase with a ribbed moiré pattern and a beige silk lifting ribbon. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K.
