His writings primarily focused on Biblical subjects and India, his best-known work being a collection of tales, The Romance of History. India (1836). Printed by Samuel Bentley in London. Octavo: x, 240 pp. with a frontispiece, extra title page vignette, and 20 full-page plates, all steel engravings with tissue guards, after William Daniell. In the publisher's deluxe red morocco binding, with gilt-stamped borders and floral scrollwork surround on the each board; and five raised bands and gilt-stamped rules, floral ornamental compartments, and titling on the spine. All edges gilt, with gilt-stamped dentelles and pale blue coated endpapers with gold-printed 6-pointed stars. Mild bump to the top corner of the rear board. Some light spotting to the leather, with a tiny bit of rubbing to the corners and tips; else very good or better. Faxon 1658. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K.
