In the publisher's dark blue diagonal fine-ribbed cloth binding, with beveled boards, gilt-stamped ruled and floral ornamental borders with square corner devices, central ruled panels with winged figure, head and tail bands, and titling. The bookplate of Joseph M. Gleason (1869-1942), a Californian Catholic priest, historian, and collector of books and photographs, appears on the front pastedown, with his small ink accession stamp to the verso of the title page. Light wear and toning along the extremities of the boards. Better than very good. Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K. Morris and Edward S. Levin. Very good.
