Accompanied by a typed letter signed by bookseller Leon Gelber of Gelber Lilienthal, Inc., in San Francisco, who assisted Bennett's wife, Melba, in acquiring the book from Wagner. The first translation into English of this little-known document written during the first year of Mexican rule in California. As Wagner notes in his introduction, "San Martín had, I judge from his memorial, never been in California, certainly not in Upper California, but his description of the possibilities as we now know them are not overdrawn. He was one of the first boosters for California and somewhere he had obtained some pretty reliable information about it." Quarto: 25 p.
