Originally published in an 1839 issue of The Knickerbocker magazine, this account of a rogue albino sperm whale that lived in the southeastern Pacific Ocean served as part of the inspiration behind Herman Melville's novel, Moby-Dick (1851). From the library of Vice Admiral Edward L. Cochrane, with his ink stamp to the front pastedown. Quarto: [6], 90, [4] pp. with illustrations (etched reproductions of linoleum prints) by Lowell LeRoy Balcom. Original cream paper-covered boards, with black-stamped titles.
