A VOYAGE ON THE COLORADO, 1878: Translated and Edited by Charles N. Rudkin
Los Angeles: Glen Dawson, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. Limited to 300 copies printed at the Cole-Holmquist Press. "Francis Berton, Swiss Consul at San Francisco, with Antoine Borel, a financier friend, took advantage of the Southern Pacific's newly opened line to Yuma for a vacation. They broke the journey at Los Angeles to visit friends. At Yuma they took passage on the steamer Cocopah for a trip as far north as it would take them, actually to the junction with the Bill Williams River. Berton's journal was privately printed for his friends and now furnishes an amusing and informative view of Los Angeles, of early railroad travel, and especially of steamboating on the Colorado River." Volume XVIII in the Early California Travels Series. 12mo: 103, [1] pp. Original brown cloth binding, with a rendering of a steamboat on the front panel. Near fine.
