MOTHER PEOPLE #5-6, 12-15, 19-27, and 34

Bridgeport, Connecticut: Rob Cerreta, 1982-1987. Sixteen issues of the Frank Zappa fanzine published by Rob Cerreta from 1981 to 1989.

Cerreta, the president of Mud Shark Records, first published a sales list of Zappa items called Totally Zapped, which evolved into the Mother People fanzine. Readers were allowed to sell bootleg vinyl through the publication, a practice Cerreta also engaged in until he was arrested. In addition to Frank Zappa, the zine also features news and reviews related to the Mothers of Invention, Captain Beefheart, the Missing Persons, the Grandmothers, and anything else Cerreta deemed to be in the world of “Mothermania".

Mother People #13 is devoted to the “other records of Frank Zappa, the underground records made between 1972 and the present day." However, as Cerreta cautions: “Watch out for men in polyester suits, walking through record shops with this book in their hand – they are up to no good.”

Appropriately enough, the zines in this collection are bootlegs, photomechanically reproduced from originals or earlier interations. Most consist of 24 pages and all are bound with staples. Some mild toning and wear along the extremities; else very good.

The photomechanically reproduced zines typically run 23 pages and are bound with staples. Item #77621
