Family history of Sojuro Nakamura (1882-1970), who arrived in the United States in 1903 with his brother, Mantsuchi, and settled in Reedley, California, where they operated a successful grape growing operation. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Nakamura family was forcibly removed from their home and sent to the internment camp in Poston, Arizona where Sojuro's wife, Shizu, passed away. Most of the family returned to Reedley after the war and in 1953, after the Walter-McCarran Act (1952) made all races eligible for natualization, Sojuro received U.S. citizenship.
