Item #77080 PARTY ‘EM UP: A Booklet of College Parties

PARTY ‘EM UP: A Booklet of College Parties

Oxford, Ohio: Newell-Smith, circa 1960. Wraps. Animal House-era guide to throwing themed parties, with a prefatory note that reads, “Although the masculine pronouns are used throughout this volume (it having been written largely by men), sororities should not hesitate to make use of it as their facilities allow. Most of the events described in the following pages are as easily arranged by the women of sororities as by fraternity members."

Includes detailed descriptions of 37 themed party formats, among them:

Monte Carlo Party – “If your local police force will oblige with a mock ‘raid,’ the excitement will add to the evening.”

The Communist Party – “If the party is to be a date affair, have each brother supplied with a number tag or ink ‘tattoo’ as a means of identification. If a fraternity is entertaining a whole chapter of a sorority, have the brothers draw lots for numbers and call for the women according to number.”

A Poverty Party – “This is especially appropriate toward the end of the month when allowances have been run through, GI checks have not arrived, and the bills are piling up with every mail.”

Prison Dance – “The men come to this dance dressed as ‘yeggs’ and the women as gun molls.”

Suppressed Desire Party – “This is a costume party that has become popular as Dali’s paintings have gained renown.”

Also provides notes on decorations and concludes with an advertisement for Miniature Paddles by Longleat’s – thank you, sir, may I have another! Octavo: 32 p. Original printed paper wrappers, bound with staples. Mild bumping to the fore-edge. The front panel is browned, with some uneven toning to the rear panel. As Dean Wormer would have it, OCLC locates no copies. Very good. Item #77080
