She is revered in France as one of the great icons of 17th century literature. Octavo, six volumes, with a frontispiece portrait. In striking three-quarter red morocco over marbled paper bindings by Charles Meunier, with black morocco inlays, five raised bands, decorative gilt stamping, matching marbled endpapers, and a ribbon marker. The small bookplate of art collector and philanthropist Henry Walters (1848–1931) appears on the front pastedown in the first volume. The spines are darkened just a touch, with some light rubbing to the corners and tips. A lovely set. Very good. Item #76529
