THE DEDICATION OF BOOKS TO PATRON AND FRIEND: A Chapter in Literary History

London: Elliot Stock, 1887. First Edition. Hardcover. From the library of Olive Percival, with her bookplate to the front pastedown. Olive May Graves Percival (1868-1945) was a multi-talented Los Angeles writer, photographer, gardener, artist, and bibliophile. Although she earned her living as an insurance clerk, she wrote for a variety of magazines, authored several books, and was sought after as a lecturer on gardens, Japanese ceramics, and children's books, among other subjects. 12mo: vii, [i], 257 p. Original paper-covered boards over a brown cloth spine with gilt titles. Light smudging to the first few leaves, with a tiny period bookseller's label to the front flyleaf. The boards are a touch edgeworn, with some mild toning along the spine; otherwise very good. Very good. Item #76268
