THE LURKER AT THE THRESHOLD
Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House, 1945. First Edition. Hardcover. The first printing, consisting of 3,041 copies. Inscribed by August Derleth on the front flyleaf. According to Jack Chalker and Mark Owings, this is 'the best Derleth pastiche of H.P. Lovecraft, it actually contains less than 900 words by HPL, a small vignette on a stone tower in Rhode Island, around which Derleth built a very good novella. Reads like Lovecraft but moves fast. Stephen King lists this one as a major influence on him" (Science-Fantasy Publishers, p.23). Dust jacket art by Ronald Clyne. Original cloth binding, with gilt titles. Light dust spotting along the edges. The dust jacket is a touch toned, with some occasional mild edgewear; otherwise very good. Very good / Very good. Item #76261
