PETRARCH: Catalogue of the Petrarch Collection in Cornell University Library

Millwood, New York: The Kraus-Thomson Organization, Ltd., 1974. Hardcover. "The Cornell Petrarch Collection, and this catalogue, are the product of the character and purpose of the collector, Willard Fiske." A versatile scholar and masterly bibliographer, Fiske (1831-1904) was appointed Cornell's first University Librarian, a position he held from 1868 to 1883. The Icelandic, Dante, and Rhaeto-Romanic collections he assembled are among the finest in the world. The Petrarch collection, which Fiske began to assemble in the spring of 1881, represents copiously all the facets of Petrarch's literary production as well as scholarship on the Italian Renaissance poet. This catalogue revises and expands upon the Catalogue of the Petrarch Collection (1916), which was long recognized as the standard bibliography. Introduction by Morris Bishop. Index by Laura Jennings. Quarto: [8], 737 p. Original green cloth binding, with gilt titles. Mild bumping to the corners and tips; otherwise very good. Very good. Item #76059
