Presentation copy, inscribed and dated in the year of publication by Garson Kanin to journalist Grace Davidson on the Boston Post on the front flyleaf. The story of a minor-league con man who decides to go (somewhat) straight by moving into the legitimate business of juke boxes and music promotion. This novella served as the basis for the successful 1960 Broadway musical, with a book by Kanin (1912-99), music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Illustrated by Al Hirschfeld. Octavo. Original decorative paper-covered boards over a gray cloth spine, with red stamping. A few tiny spots to the fore-edge.
