San Diego, California: Ferguson, Bumgarner & Co., July 1887. Wraps. Octavo: 24 p. Original printed blue-green wrappers, stitched. A few pencil notations and the period ink stamp of “B.A. Stephens, Los Angeles, Cal.” to the title page. The front panel is moderately toned; otherwise very good. Scarce, OCLC locates only six holdings (Azusa Pacific, CSU Fullerton, Getty, Huntington, UC Berkeley, and UC Irvine).

Extols the virtues of Baja California for agriculture, stock-raising, mining, and manufacturing. The text further supplies testimonial “Opinions of the Press”. Inside the front wrapper is promotional text addressed to “parties desiring homes or investments […] homebuilders, and health-seekers”, while inside the rear wrapper the text promotes “The fine new steamer Carlos Pachedo” sailing from San Diego to Ensenada. The verso of the title page lists the officers of the International Company of Mexico. Barrett 1303.

Provenance: B.A. Cecil Stephens was a member of the Historical Society of Southern California in the 1890s, and also a member of a syndicate interested in water flows in the lower Colorado River. Very good. Item #74711
