The daughter of a concert singer and a portrait and landscape artist, Estelle Ishigo (nee Peck, 1899-1990) attended Otis Art Institute, where she met San Franciscan Nisei Arthur Ishigo; they married in 1928. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Estelle and Arthur both lost their jobs, and Arthur was subsequently ordered to an internment camp. Although Caucasian, Estelle decided to follow him and they were both later assigned to the Heart Mountain War Relocation Center in Wyoming. During their time there, Estelle used her artistic abilities to document their lives. Printed by Anderson, Ritchie & Simon. Tall octavo: 104 p. with numerous black-and-white illustrations. Original pictorial black paper wrappers. Mild toning to the top edge, with just a hint of edgewear. Better than very good. Very good. Item #74483
