“LEGACY 1983-1987” TESTAMENT CONCERT POSTER. Heavy Metal – Thrash.

The original master copy from which the very last Legacy concert poster was reproduced. Promoting the Bay Area thrash act’s March 4, 1987 performance at The Stone in San Francisco, it declares:

Formed in 1983, Legacy was one of the first thrash bands to emerge from the Bay Area metal scene. The “classic” lineup, comprised of guitarist Eric Peterson, bassist Greg Christian, vocalist Chuck Billy, guitarist Alex Skolnick, and drummer Louie Clemente, honed their talents alongside Exodus, Metallica, and other second wave bands like Death Angel, Forbidden, and Vio-lence. Forced to change their name, the newly-christened Testament released their acclaimed debut The Legacy (1987), which arrived on the heels of Metallica’s Master of Puppets, Slayer’s Reign in Blood, Megadeth’s Peace Sells, and Anthrax’s Among the Living. With this album and the two that followed, The New Order (1988) and Practice What You Preach (1989), Testament transcended thrash with a progressive virtuosity that was widely imitated in the years that followed.

Rarely seen, master copies feature original art essential to the band’s visual aesthetic. This one is a quintessential DIY production, measuring 8 ½” x 14”, and hand-drawn on the verso of an old 8 ½” x 11” flyer, which was extended to 14” tall with a half sheet taped on the verso. It incorporates cut-and-paste on lays, as well as liquid paper applications to facilitate a cleaner look during photomechanical reproduction. There is some mild toning, with a negligible scuff near the logo; otherwise very good.
