GLENDORA: The Annals of a Southern California Community

Claremont, California: Saunders Press, 1951. First Edition. Hardcover. Inscribed on a prefatory blank leaf by Donald Pflueger to John W. Robinson, the revered outdoorsman, author of popular hiking guides, and historian of Southern California mountains: "Inscribed for John W. Robinson who knows those mountains behind Glendora far better than I do. Best regards, Don Pflueger 11-11-81". The author's first book, limited to 1,000 copies. Originally an honors thesis, this history of Pflueger's hometown demonstrates how local history can be regional without being provincial. Commencing with the Henry Dalton era of the 19th century ranchos and recounting the rise of the great Southern California citrus industry, Pflueger tells the history of Glendora against the larger background of regional and national events. Includes a foreword by Robert Glass Cleland, numerous textual photographs, and illustrations by Arthur Camargo. Octavo: 262 p. Original pictorial buckram binding, with photographic endpapers. The dust jacket is a touch browned along the spine, with some general edgewear, including chipping to the corners and tips; otherwise very good. Very good / Very good. Item #74266
