New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1978. First Edition. Hardcover. Presentation copy, inscribed on the front flyleaf by Rupert Pole, the husband of Anaïs Nin (1903-77), as well as her literary executor, to the translator, Jean Sherman: “For Jean who became the young Anaïs writing in English.” Additionally, a printed Harcourt Brace Jovanovich presentation card signed by editor John Ferrone is laid in.

The first of Anaïs Nin’s adolescent diaries, covering the years 1914 through 1920, when she was age 11 through 17. A self-portrait of an innocent girl who is transformed, through her own inner strengths, into an enlightened young woman, it anticipates and informs much of her later work.

Octavo, 518 p. with 60 illustrations. Original dark green paper-covered boards over a light green cloth spine, with gilt titles. Very light bumping to the corners and tips. The dust jacket is clean and bright, with a mild crease to the front flap; else near fine. Accompanied by the Uncorrected Proof, which includes numerous holographic corrections, presumably in Sherman's hand. Near fine / Near fine. Item #74198
