NEW GUINEA HEADHUNT. Caroline Mytinger.

New York: The Macmillan Company, 1946. First Edition. Hardcover. First edition, first printing. The author's second book, preceded by Headhunting in the Solomon Islands (1942). Both works are based on the long letters Mytinger (1897-1980) wrote to friends and family during her travels in the Solomon Islands and Papua-New Guinea with childhood friend, fellow painter Margaret Warner. The intrepid duo only brought $400 between them, planning to support themselves by painting portraits of white colonials along the way. Octavo: 441 p. with textual photographs and illustrations and an endpaper map. Original black cloth binding, with yellow titles. The dust jacket is bit edgeworn, with some shallow clipping to the front flap and a few tape repairs to the verso; else very good. Very good / Very good. Item #74186
