It begins with an account of the formation of the Dutch East India Company, and then proceeds with the history of the Dutch in Ceylon from their first appearance in 1602 until the fall of the last Portuguese stronghold in 1658. The last two chapters deal with the Dutch colonization in the island and their civil establishments. Octavo: 198 p. with a folding frontispiece map, 12 plates (1 folding), and 21 textual illustrations. Original blue cloth binding, with gilt titles.
