BRICE MARDEN - COLD MOUNTAIN

Houston, Texas: Houston Fine Art Press, 1992. First Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Brice Marden on the title page. In the early 1980s, American artist Brice Marden (b.1938) broke from his accomplished style and technique of monochrome painting to begin experimenting with new materials and ways of making art. Inspired by the forms of Chinese calligraphy, Marden combined airy scaffoldings of line with whitish or palely tinted backgrounds in his acclaimed Cold Mountain series of paintings, which were among the largest canvases he had made to that point. This volume presents the complete Cold Mountain work, as created between 1988 and 1991, in its context of development through sketchbook pages, drawings, etchings, and paintings. Oblong quarto: 154 p. with 109 illustrations (82 color). Original white cloth binding. Light bumping to the bottom corners, with some mild sun fading along the extremities of the dust jacket; else near fine. Near fine / Near fine. Item #73909
