CLEAR LAKE IN BEAUTIFUL LAKE COUNTY

Lower Lake, California: Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce, circa 1950. Located north of Napa County and San Francisco, Clear Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake wholly within the state and at an age of 2.5 million years, the oldest lake in North America. It is known as the “Bass Capital of the West”, and has long been a destination for watersports and other outdoor activities, as this pictorial travel brochure attests: “Lake and mountain scenery may be enjoyed comfortably from the resort or hotel of your choice, and many vantage points are to be found on the winding roads which encircle the lake. For the more adventuresome, horses are available to explore the miles of bridle paths, or a different but equally compelling view may be obtained from boats, of which every type from canoe to 60-foot yachts are at the disposal of the vacationer.” Features six photographic illustrations and two maps, including a cartoon rendering of Clear Lake by Lee Fidge. Accompanied by a two-sided Clear Lake Business Directory leaflet, which lists 119 businesses in Clearlake Highlands, Clearlake Park, Clearlake Oaks, Glenhaven, Lower Lake, and Lakeport. Printed in black, blue, and red on a 12” x 17 ½” sheet of white paper that folds to 4” x 8 ¾” (12 panels). Light toning to the outer panels; else very good or better. Scarce, OCLC locates only two holdings (Yale and UC Davis). Item #73821
