PETITION CONCERNING PLACEMENT OF A KENTUCKY ROAD

An undated holographic petition signed by residents of Mercer County, Kentucky seeking a change to the plans for the location of a public road. The eleven petitioners say the road which leads from Zachariah Smith’s farm to Danville, Kentucky is “sercuitus (sic) and inconvenient.” They recommend a different route, from the end of the Smith planation, traveling by Uriah Taylor’s, William Southers, Mrs. Gilleshe’s, and then onto Danville. Based on several of the names that appear in this document, it appears to date from the late 1700s. The petition is handwritten on white 11” x 14” paper in black ink. The document is toned and soiled with two archival tape repairs to the verso. Item #72701
