ALBERT EINSTEIN: A Biographical Portrait

New York: Albert & Charles Boni, 1931. Hardcover. Second printing. Inscribed by Albert Einstein on the front flyleaf: “For Mrs. Kahn, Albert Einstein, Pasadena 1931.” It’s possible that the Mrs. Kahn in question was Jane Kahn, managing editor of The Physics Teacher magazine. Among the earliest biographies of the renowned German-born physicist and father of relativity. Full of intimate details, it was written by Einstein’s son-in-law. Einstein (1879-1955) wintered in Pasadena between 1931 and 1933 while serving as a visiting professor at Caltech. In 1999, Time magazine named Einstein its “person of the century,” citing not only his intellectual brilliance but his humanitarian concerns, and describing him as a “paramount icon of our age.” Octavo. Original red cloth binding, with black and gilt stamping. Period bookseller’s label to the rear pastedown. The spine is sun faded, with some faint staining to the boards and a bit of wear to the corners and tips. Good. Item #72602

Price: $6,500.00
