BUTCH CASSIDY, MY BROTHER

Provo, Utah: Brigham Young University Press, 1975. First Edition. Hardcover. In this memoir, the sister of the folk hero outlaw from Utah contends that he did not die an outlaw’s death in a gun battle on the streets of South America as depicted in the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). Instead, she claims he returned home and lived under an assumed name before dying of pneumonia in 1937. Accompanied by three handwritten letters from Betenson and a facsimile of a Butch Cassidy wanted poster, along with two newspaper clippings. In one of the letters, Betenson comments on her close relationship with actor Robert Redford, who portrayed the Sundance Kid: “Bob and I are real good friends, in fact, he wrote the forward for my book.” Also present is a typed letter form from autograph collector Herb Wetenkamp asking Betenson to sign the facsimile 8 ½” x 11” reward poster included with this material. Octavo. Some general edgewear to the boards and dust jacket; otherwise about very good. Very good / Very good. Item #71072
