Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott & Co., 1861. First Edition. Hardcover. Sloan (1815-84) was a Philadelphia-based architect who specialized in Italianate villas and country houses, churches, and institutional buildings. A prolific author, he also reached thousands of potential clients through the pages of Godey's Lady's Book, which began publishing his designs in 1852. This important work presents 39 of his designs, along with four ground plans, and appendices on terra cotta and furniture. Two chromolithographic plates, with 202 illustrations, including 52 full-page plates. Octavo. Original patterned purple cloth binding, with decorative gilt and blind-stamped designs. Negligible creasing to the front flyleaf, with some dust staining to the top edge. The spine is a trifle faded, with light wear to the corners and tips; otherwise very good. Very good. Item #70989
