A stunning collaboration, featuring seven mezzotint engravings by Holly Downing inspired by her experiences in the Peruvian Andes, and six poems by David St. John influenced by the indigenous Quechua folksongs of the area. Includes a poem (“Doorway Song”) translated into the Ecuadorian version of Quechua, Kichwa, by Margot Cifuentes. The poetry text is Poliphilus type, handset and printed on Rives BFK by Eric Johnson of Iota Press, Sebastopol, California. Editioning of the engravings was done by Kathleen Watson in the artist’s Sebastopol studio. Bookbinding was by Juliayn Coleman of Book Island Bindery, San Francisco. Square octavo. Comprised of 18 unbound leaves, which are housed within a gray paper chemise and a blue linen clamshell box, with a printed paper title label inset on the front panel. This is Number 4 of 15 copies and is signed by Holly Downing and David St. John on the colophon leaf. Each of the engravings is numbered, titled, signed, and dated by Downing. Fine. Fine.
