REMINISCENCES OF A RANGER or Early Times in Southern California

Santa Barbara, California: Wallace Hebberd, 1927. Second Edition. Hardcover. Bell (1830-1918) was an incendiary attorney who was fond of the seamier side of life. This true account of the lawless days of Los Angeles during the 1850s and of Bell's volunteer service with the Los Angeles Rangers pursuing Joaquin Murrieta and his bandit gang rivals any dime-store western. A key Southern California title, in its original edition (1881) it was the first book printed and bound in Los Angeles. This second edition features a foreword by Arthur M. Ellis and illustrations by James S. Bodrero. Octavo. Original green cloth binding, with pictorial gilt stamping. Internally crisp and clean. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with a bit of mild fading along the spine and folds, and some neat brown paper reinforcement to the verso; otherwise very good. The Zamorano Eighty 5. Very good / Very good. Item #69747
