"A splendid novel of life and stirring adventure in South Africa during the late war" by the Boer general who led the Johannesburg Commando and later formed a powerful guerrrilla commando before his capture at Lydenburg. Later, Viljoen (1869-1917) was involved in a failed attempt to establish a Boer settlement in the north of Mexico. Octavo. Original red cloth binding, with pictorial black, green, blue, and white stamping. Some dust staining to the top edge, with a small stain to the fore-edge.
